Shaune Fraser breaks record as Cayman keeps medals coming

Brett Fraser picked up a pair of gold medals while Alex Pascal earned another as Cayman kept the medals coming throughout the first half of the day (1 July) at the 2015 NatWest Island Games.

UPDATE: Shaune Fraser broke the Island Games record and won gold in the 100-metres individual medley. He finished in 54.42 seconds. Alex McCallum also took silver in the 200-metres backstroke. These results were from later in the day (1 July) and did not make the Cayman 27 News at 6 broadcast.

Earlier in the day, Brett Fraser picked up a pair of gold medals in the 50-metres butterfly (23.96 seconds) and 100-metres freestyle (49.13) while Pascal won gold in the men’s javelin throw with a long toss of 65.03 metres.

Before his record-breaking race, Shaune Fraser took a pair of silver medals in the 50 fly and 100 free. Lara Butler also took silver in the 200 backstroke.

Cayman’s lone bronze medalist of the day was high jumper Ashleigh Nalty, who cleared 1.6 metres.

Cayman had a few potential medalist who did not race.

Distance runners Jorel Bellafonte and Tahj Lewis as well quarter-miler Gerome Bodden were listed as DNS (did not start) on the results page.
